First Visit Expectations at Chiro 1st:
We Welcome You!
Most people are somewhat apprehensive when they set forth on an alternative form of care (especially when it is their first experience with chiropractic). Rest assured, when you enter our office you will be greeted by a warm and friendly staff who will immediately put you at ease and start you with the appropriate paperwork. You can also have your paperwork filled out by printing & filling out the forms at home.
Once completed, you will have a consultation with one of the doctors, who will perform a comprehensive history. This gives you the opportunity to express your health concerns and expectations and to ask any questions you may have pertaining to the matter. It is also our opportunity to express our role in your health care and discuss your health options and prognosis.
A physical exam will then be performed which will include range of motion evaluation, orthopedic testing, reflex assessments, muscle testing, and a specific Chiropractic evaluation in order to identify the source of the problem.
In most cases, treatment will begin on the first visit. Depending on the Doctor’s findings it may consist of physical therapy, spinal manipulation, joint mobilization, muscle work or some combination of these. The doctors may also provide valuable information in regards to modifications in your activities of daily living, your ergonomic set-up and/or post-treatment care such as ice and rest.
During your follow-up visit a comprehensive treatment plan will be discussed with you so that you have a clear understanding as to what to expect for the duration of your care in our office.
We feel that the foundation of the doctor-patient relationship is communication. If you feel that something has not been explained to your liking, please feel comfortable in addressing it. On each subsequent visit we will ask you how you are progressing, we want you to feel that you can tell us if you are feeling better, worse, or the same.
The key to your success is keeping your appointments. Our goal is not to see you three times a week for life, but to find a solution to your problem and address it appropriately. When treatment gets spread out and appointments are missed, your muscles have difficulty “learning” how they are supposed to move and function. Our body has an amazing ability to memorize. When joints have not been functioning properly for a period of time they will form a memory to that position and will resist moving properly. Of course, each patient is different and may take more or less time than the suggested duration of treatment.
Again, we realize that you have choices in regard to your healthcare and we thank you for placing that trust in our office. We will do everything possible to make your experience pleasant, informative and productive.
